Does Posh wannabe a comedian now?
Comedy isn't the new rock and roll, it's clearly the new celebrity. David Gest is reportedly planning a stand-up/variety tour of the UK next year and Britt Ekland has just announced that she is going to appear onstage in Grumpy Old Women, but the most disturbing example of this everyone-is-a-comedian phenomenon is Victoria Beckham's recent pseudo-reality TV documentary. As she swanned through LaLaLand she clearly thought she was pitching herself as the funniest, most gifted comedian on the planet. And just to clarify that this show was a comedy not a fly-on-the-wall documentary, an Ugly Betty lookalike – an actor, not a real person – was cast as her new PA.
And, it pains me to say it, but given her abject inability to crack a smile, Posh did make a pretty good deadpan comedian, even if the whole project was painfully self-conscious. It was noticeable though, that in the scenes with David Beckham she pouted rather than played it for laughs. When will women realise that men like women with a sense of humour every bit as much as they like women with their tits shoved up under their chin. Or maybe that's just me.
Victoria Beckham's whole shameless juggernaut campaign to conquer America is a bit of a joke, but then who can blame her? In a country that rates Paris "bargain bin" Hilton as a celebrity Victoria Beckham is positively multi-talented. Besides, they probably think Posh Spice really is posh over there just because she speaks with an English accent.
One bit of good news though - Ricky Gervais has announced on his website that, despite recent reports, the Beckhams definitely aren't appearing in the Extras Christmas special. With a Gervais backlash looming after his recent lacklustre live Wembley shows, being associated with the publicity-hungry stick woman could have been a further dent in his reputation.

Yeay she's funny alright...the whole world seems to be laughing at her!

I saw a TV programm on The Welcome of Victoria Beckhams arrival in the USA, as an Englishman living her in the US I was embarrased to say the least, she is not attractive in any way and as for the accent I shuddered and as to her her American friends they were just as false as she is, the one I feel sorry for is David himself having to put up with her maybe he can spend a lot of time at the Soccer Club just to get away from her
Posted by: Ray Cunningham | 19/07/2007 at 02:13 PM
She was truely funny, but I don't think she realiSed just how much because of her inablity to see that the whole wold is laughing AT HER!!!
Posted by: Lisa | 19/07/2007 at 03:06 PM
Very funny indeed. Unfortunately not because of her or her scriptwriters making.
Posted by: sean | 19/07/2007 at 03:50 PM
I JUST WISH THAT THE MEDIA WOULD NOT REPORT ON HER, I ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE NO INTREST IN HER SILLY LITTLE LIFE

Why is there such a witch hunt against this woman? She seems to inspire so much venom. I met her once when I tripped over in a London store. She came to my assistance and asked if I was ok. She was actually much more attractive in the flesh and appeared really down to earth. Im not a big fan of anything she does but I don't understand why people are so vindictive towards her. I feel there is a certain misogyny going on here and other women should defend her.
Posted by: Jo Wood | 19/07/2007 at 05:02 PM
She does not even have the talent of a Butterfly's fart. She should stay in the U.S with all the other Posers.
Posted by: Jason | 19/07/2007 at 05:16 PM
Now, if you're quite through slamming the Americans ....
I think the Beckham backlash comes from her shameless self-promotion when she really has nothing of interest to offer. Okay, so she was part of a two-hit-wonder back in the 80's and she married a handsome rich sports star. So what? It has nothing to do with whether she's attractive - or kindly. Is she entertaining? Sure, Paris Hilton is a fool, but it's entertaining to watch her self-destruct (again and again).
To add to the irritation, apparently no one bothered to tell whatever idiot at the network put this thing on TV that soccer is not particularly big in the U.S. 3/4 of the population couldn't care less that David Beckham is going to be playing here and even less that his wife is coming along. You see that TV thing was pared down from a miniseries to a one-night affair (God, who could stand more than that). I suspect that producer will soon be out of a job.
So no, I don't think we're vindictive, we just don't tolerate such silliness well.
Posted by: Rob | 19/07/2007 at 06:00 PM
Yeah, if bleach blonde hair and big fake tits are funny, she is a one-woman comedy show.
Posted by: Joe | 19/07/2007 at 07:04 PM
Jon Stewart had her a s a guest on The Daily Show and revealed the real Posh Spice: a complete twit, totally self-absorbed and without a clue
Posted by: al rotundo | 19/07/2007 at 07:56 PM
SHE JUST HAPPENS TO BE FAMOUS (SPICE GIRLS) THATS THE REASON FOR ALL THE ATTENTION. SHE HAS SEX APPEAL AND IS A LOOKER.
Posted by: JOSE | 19/07/2007 at 07:57 PM
Im glad to see David Beckham come here to the states. I genuinely think he is a standup gentleman with a great temperment and a great role model. Posh on the other hand... oh man. I dont understand the constant posing. For all the work that David has in front of him - She is making it ten times harder for him. We are simply POSH'D OUT.... and David hasn't even started playing yet!! Could you imagine actually living with this woman?
David - when you come over to play the new york red bulls - - I'll show you how a real woman acts......;)
figures she's friends with the Cruise's.... maybe her and Tom should get together and leave Katie and David with the kids.... I think thats a better match all around
Posted by: kelly | 19/07/2007 at 09:50 PM
AWFUL waste of 1 hour that show of hers was. She got famous because she was one of the Spice Girls but that was about 8 years ago. Now she's famous because of who she's married to.... and because she looks like a freak of nature (plastic surgery). -but thinks she's HOT! Now THAT is what's FUNNY about her!!!
Posted by: Megg | 20/07/2007 at 01:40 AM
I think it's safe to say that the American Beckham/Posh media blitz didn't go over well. I would blame it on the PR firm who create this strange bit of theater. No one much cared who these two people were before they arrived, and no one much cared who they were when the smoke, mirrors and dust of their arrival settled down. They seemed like fourth rate publicity mongers who were permanently confused about who they were and what they were supposed to be doing with all those cameras and lights around them. Very odd, actually.

Men don't like women with a sense of humour? What are you talking about? Plus who said Posh is pitching herself as the funniest comedian on the planet? She isn't. She has simply made a lighthearted documentary sending herself up. I thought the show worked really well. Nice, light touch, she seemed nice, gave me a feel for LA etc. Combine that with how well Becks came across in that documentary with Tim Lovejoy, I think they're great. Don't kick the Beckhams around for its own sake. Credit where due please.

How sad that her best friends are her PAID staff. This woman has a vapid, shallow mind and is so self-promoting that the rest of us should just turn our heads and look away before she hurts herself pulling stunt after stunt to get our attention.
Maybe she could just go around town in a big ol' Bozo the Clown suit with a sign that says, "LOOK AT ME!" THe would be more subtle than her actions since she has come to the U.S.
Posted by: Sharon | 20/07/2007 at 11:00 AM
She's as funny as gangrene.
Posted by: | 20/07/2007 at 01:25 PM
Unfortunately people are laughing at Posh not with her. NBC admitted her first filming was boring hence the actors bought in and stunts and scripts. She was still toe-curlingly awful. She should go away, get over herself and allow others not to have her shoved in their face every day.
As for taking poor David to LA to join some ghastly, useless football club..words

I met Victoria Beckham a few years ago. I had a horrible job in a post-production studio and she was in for two days doing worldwide radio interviews. Of all the famous people who came through its doors, she was one of the very few people who treated me like a human being. She was nice, polite, kind, she asked me questions about myself and remembered by name. At the end she thanked me for all my work. I've been a 'fan' ever since. Go girl!
Posted by: Shelley | 20/07/2007 at 04:56 PM
Your moronic cracks about American standards of celebrity and class are hopelessly out of date. One of the few things currently uniting our great nation is our shared loathing of Paris Hilton.
And we don't think English people are posh 'cawse they tawk purty either. You need to get out of the house more, I think.
Posted by: Andrea | 20/07/2007 at 06:15 PM
Even if she was nice, which she could well be it does not mean she is good at anything. She was one fifth of one of the most manufactured and talentless girl bands on the planet. Why does she need a one hour programme on her spending her husbands money?
Posted by: sue | 20/07/2007 at 09:08 PM
Posh should have been named demented spice she has actually lost the plot and the media are only grooming then to fall one day and i believe it will be horrible and unnecessary. Poor demented posh spice

I am a british citizen living in the US.
Mrs. Beckham is a great ambassador for queen and country. She offers no baggage and is a constant lady. Who bloody well cares if she perfers stand-up. She is a positive role model, mother and wife.
You want to discuss a parallel to ridiculous, try wanna-be daughter to dame edna- eddie izzard. cheeky begger!

I am American and, yes, we definitely spend WAY too much time entertaining the likes of stick figure idiot Paris Hilton. But, I will say to Victoria Beckham's defense, she has a family and although I cannot speak to her private life, she seems to cherish her husband and 3 boys. Unlike Paris and her idiot troupe, i.e., Brittany, Lindsey and Nicole, Posh doesn't cover the front pages with pics of her under-business on display for the world to see... So what she has her friends from the UK with her and they are her paid beauty brigade, her biggest crime is posing uneccesarily all the time. Lay off her and stop hating because she floats around and does whatever she wants. (I hate her for her lucious shoe and purse collection!! (smile))
In this world of war and violence, I can shamelessly applaud her lack of caring. I am knee-deep in a war-invested career field, and I wish I could tune out and not care at all. Call it irresponsible if you want, I call it somewhat refreshing.

If they want to go over to the States and earn millions to denote to Tom Cruise and his nutters for the cause of Scientology then that's there outlook. Personally I think there all NUTS!
I'll be eating these words though when they finally build their spaceship and leave for their home planet. I wish they would go now and keep themsleves out of the spotlight for good.
Just some more parasites feeding off the societies hunger for this 'Age of Celebrity'. Well they are all a waste of good oxyegn if you ask me.
MAYBE we should all remember that the word celebrity implies you've done something to be celebrated.
I rest my case.

It's summer, there's very little that's too exciting to pay attention to in the media, and she's kind of a cutie. Who cares if she hasn't found the answer to global warming or a way to solve the problems in Darfur? At least she isn't trying to convince me that becoming a mom was the transformational experience of her life or, like so many others, that sobriety is "like...incredible".
Go Posh! She's also kind of funny.
Posted by: Scott | 23/07/2007 at 07:07 PM
I agree that Victoria seems to inspire an unwarranted barrage of venom, and believe she is probably quite nice in reality. But who can say for sure? This is why I propose that she and I spend a week or two together in some nice tropical place so that I can discover the "real" Posh and report back to the world in a TV special or something. Because I am a selfless individual, and care only for the truth and my fellow human beings, I would be willing to do take on this difficult and challenging task.

Dear Posh:
We're not buying it.
Posted by: America | 24/07/2007 at 03:44 PM
I thought Posh was adorable. Her reaction to the Beverly Hills socialites was genuinely and sweetly bemused without being judgmental. She's an accomplished shopper, truly a girl after my own heart. I disdain boring for sure. I want friends like Posh. She's in the farouche club and will certainly live a long spice filled life.
Her attitude regarding character building and social mores in reference to finances, etc. was admirable. Quit hating on Posh.

Yes i really think you have an outdated view of Americans, if that is your take on our ability to swallow anything you dump on us, we're over you now that Hugh Laurie is playing for our team. Truthfully, I thought Victoria would be the embarrassment that Paris Hilton has become (Lindsey and Britany who?) but in truth, after the whole media circus failed, I am starting to think she could offer a bit of sensibility as a role model to the lolipopped headed frappy-mocha slurping idiots in the city of angels (hardly that). At least her and DB seem to be in love, and not like Tom (doesnt like women only alien men) Cruise and his chica, but actual touchy feely love, like public affection. YES I would like to see them bring public affection back to America, it belongs, with taste. Also, the fact that she took the time to choose her kids school, take them to games, spend actual time with them is truly a breakthrough in that part of the world. So anyway, British, posh, accent or other, I hope more kids watch David and get inspired and off the g'darn streets, and that Victoria continues to shed some light on those 'nutters' over there on how one can be successful and still a loving mother and wife. So VB, whatever you do, dont say you want to be an actor, and stick to what you know and what works. and good luck in LA its going to fall into the ocean soon. cheers. acg.
Posted by: acg | 24/07/2007 at 08:48 PM
I feel sorry for David poor man, she needs to find out who she really is and start being a full time mother to her kids and forget this constant posing. Whats that all about? It is her husbands money after all not hers. She really needs to do something worthwhile with herself before the media drags her name down.
Posted by: val | 25/07/2007 at 11:52 AM
Wow! Definately some haters! I like Victoria and have since the Spice Girls. I do not expect my boyfriend to be perfect, why should I expect a celebrity to be. She is way more interesting then the train wrecks in the news lately.
I think all you hater are probaley just jealous and fat with nothing to do other then mock others. Read a book if you dislike her, more productive then posting hate on line.
Posted by: Veronica | 26/07/2007 at 12:57 AM
Watching Posh on the box recently was better than Big Brother- it was more absurd !! It was unbelievable how up herself she seems to be.
Fortunately two previous commentators warmly speak up for her humanity- just a shame it didnt come across better in the programme Maybe the producer was doing a subtle character assassination.
You have to hand it to her though, she was very courteous and polite with that bunch of crazy old hens she had lunch with: somebody throw that silly ol' bat who immitated a dolphin into the tuna nets before she is sent to the funny farm !
Posted by: Adamos | 26/07/2007 at 09:18 AM
i think a lot of people are jealous of her! she has made her millions herself. Whether you like the spice girls or not they where the best girl band in the 90's and she has gone to on to do well. she is a mother, has a loving family, a fashion designer(which i think she is good at)
at least she is famous for what something other than a kiss and tell or a sex tape scandal!! or getting her tits out
i wish them all the best. if everyone hates them so much why is she always talked about
Posted by: miss | 26/07/2007 at 11:51 AM
"She's an accomplished shopper" ??!!...*shakes head in utter despair*...
Posted by: Andy | 27/07/2007 at 01:08 AM
If you don't like it, don't watch it!!
Come on give the woman a break! I am sure you would all be pouting and worrying about what you looked like every minute of the day if you read half the nasty comments people have made.
Lets all get a life and stop worrying about hers.
Posted by: J | 27/07/2007 at 01:55 PM
If soccer was the reason they came to the US then why all the nonsense about the Scientology cult being the force behind the implementation of the pr blitz? IE hosting parties etc.. Those people are horrifying to nonbelievers like me.
Posted by: Barry | 28/07/2007 at 01:37 AM
um why do we waste trees on her?
her only talent is self promotion and setting a bad example for kids out there. Size Zero is sick

Mitch
the size Zero skeleton is NOT a positive role model
Posted by: enoughalready | 28/07/2007 at 09:31 AM
"Victoria who??" .... Oh, 1990's pop queen.
"David who??" .... Oh, Brit soccer player. Maybe some of the 50,000 or so people in the US who actually watch soccer might know who he is. The other 300 million, not so much.
Bet they both go back to the UK 'cause no one here knows or cares who they are and they find no hoards of press or adoring fans.
Posted by: Elizabeth, Tx USA | 30/07/2007 at 06:54 PM
Like it or not people Posh will always be richer, prettier and funnier the the vast majority of people writing their silly hate filled comments here. I watched the show and actually my media induced opinion of her was changed, I thought she was in fact quite funny and showed herself to be as down to earth as a multi millionaire can be. Too bad most people have to be jealous and feel they need to be cruel to her. As for being attractive, I mean considering she is British I think she is incredibly beautiful at least she isn't pasty and fat.
Posted by: David | 30/07/2007 at 08:10 PM
Dear Posh:
You are the best!!!
Posted by: Marija | 31/07/2007 at 12:11 PM
Where in the world did you get the impression that Paris Hilton is a celebrity in the US? She's a punchline-nothing more. She's absolutely loathed here. Her album tanked in the US. So have her 'movies'. Her tv show, briefly an odd attraction given her porn exploits, was bounced from one cable network to the next lower on the ladder until it was on the lowly E channel and finally, mercifully, canceled.
Posh is regarded as a badly dressed media whore in the states, when she is regarded at all-which ain't much. Oh, and she didn't have any American friends in that atrocious bomb of tv special she had. The closest Posh got to having American friends was that assistant and, it turns out, that woman was an actress playing the part of the assistant.
Posted by: kit | 20/08/2007 at 05:48 PM
And, to the poster saying people are just jealous-- Jealous? Of what? Her bad skin, horrendous plastic boobs, bleached out badly cut hairdo and absurdly tacky clothes? Her complete and utter lack of talent?
Posted by: kit | 20/08/2007 at 05:52 PM
As an American, I can personally say that I don't believe that Victoria Beckham is posh because she speaks with a British accent. This whole "posh" image was something created for her when she was a Spice Girl in the making. She looks like complete Euro-trash with her fake tan, bleached hair, and breast implants. She was a beautiful, coquettish girl before she was gobbled up by fame and lost way too much weight. Now, she has a preoccupation with looking-what is her definition of-perfect for photographs. I would be able to appreciate her more if she were real.
