Does Posh wannabe a comedian now?

Comedy isn't the new rock and roll, it's clearly the new celebrity. David Gest is reportedly planning a stand-up/variety tour of the UK next year and Britt Ekland has just announced that she is going to appear onstage in Grumpy Old Women, but the most disturbing example of this everyone-is-a-comedian phenomenon is Victoria Beckham's recent pseudo-reality TV documentary. As she swanned through LaLaLand she clearly thought she was pitching herself as the funniest, most gifted comedian on the planet. And just to clarify that this show was a comedy not a fly-on-the-wall documentary, an Ugly Betty lookalike – an actor, not a real person – was cast as her new PA.
And, it pains me to say it, but given her abject inability to crack a smile, Posh did make a pretty good deadpan comedian, even if the whole project was painfully self-conscious. It was noticeable though, that in the scenes with David Beckham she pouted rather than played it for laughs. When will women realise that men like women with a sense of humour every bit as much as they like women with their tits shoved up under their chin. Or maybe that's just me.
Victoria Beckham's whole shameless juggernaut campaign to conquer America is a bit of a joke, but then who can blame her? In a country that rates Paris "bargain bin" Hilton as a celebrity Victoria Beckham is positively multi-talented. Besides, they probably think Posh Spice really is posh over there just because she speaks with an English accent.
One bit of good news though - Ricky Gervais has announced on his website that, despite recent reports, the Beckhams definitely aren't appearing in the Extras Christmas special. With a Gervais backlash looming after his recent lacklustre live Wembley shows, being associated with the publicity-hungry stick woman could have been a further dent in his reputation.

Doreen Ayers

She certainly is a joke alright !

I saw a TV programm on The Welcome of Victoria Beckhams arrival in the USA, as an Englishman living her in the US I was embarrased to say the least, she is not attractive in any way and as for the accent I shuddered and as to her her American friends they were just as false as she is, the one I feel sorry for is David himself having to put up with her maybe he can spend a lot of time at the Soccer Club just to get away from her

Lisa

She was truely funny, but I don't think she realiSed just how much because of her inablity to see that the whole wold is laughing AT HER!!!

sean

Very funny indeed. Unfortunately not because of her or her scriptwriters making.

BRIAN QUINNELL

I JUST WISH THAT THE MEDIA WOULD NOT REPORT ON HER, I ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE NO INTREST IN HER SILLY LITTLE LIFE

Why is there such a witch hunt against this woman? She seems to inspire so much venom. I met her once when I tripped over in a London store. She came to my assistance and asked if I was ok. She was actually much more attractive in the flesh and appeared really down to earth. Im not a big fan of anything she does but I don't understand why people are so vindictive towards her. I feel there is a certain misogyny going on here and other women should defend her.

Jason

She does not even have the talent of a Butterfly's fart. She should stay in the U.S with all the other Posers.

Rob

Now, if you're quite through slamming the Americans ....

I think the Beckham backlash comes from her shameless self-promotion when she really has nothing of interest to offer. Okay, so she was part of a two-hit-wonder back in the 80's and she married a handsome rich sports star. So what? It has nothing to do with whether she's attractive - or kindly. Is she entertaining? Sure, Paris Hilton is a fool, but it's entertaining to watch her self-destruct (again and again).

To add to the irritation, apparently no one bothered to tell whatever idiot at the network put this thing on TV that soccer is not particularly big in the U.S. 3/4 of the population couldn't care less that David Beckham is going to be playing here and even less that his wife is coming along. You see that TV thing was pared down from a miniseries to a one-night affair (God, who could stand more than that). I suspect that producer will soon be out of a job.

So no, I don't think we're vindictive, we just don't tolerate such silliness well.

Joe

Yeah, if bleach blonde hair and big fake tits are funny, she is a one-woman comedy show.

al rotundo

Jon Stewart had her a s a guest on The Daily Show and revealed the real Posh Spice: a complete twit, totally self-absorbed and without a clue

JOSE

SHE JUST HAPPENS TO BE FAMOUS (SPICE GIRLS) THATS THE REASON FOR ALL THE ATTENTION. SHE HAS SEX APPEAL AND IS A LOOKER.

Im glad to see David Beckham come here to the states. I genuinely think he is a standup gentleman with a great temperment and a great role model. Posh on the other hand... oh man. I dont understand the constant posing. For all the work that David has in front of him - She is making it ten times harder for him. We are simply POSH'D OUT.... and David hasn't even started playing yet!! Could you imagine actually living with this woman?

David - when you come over to play the new york red bulls - - I'll show you how a real woman acts......;)

figures she's friends with the Cruise's.... maybe her and Tom should get together and leave Katie and David with the kids.... I think thats a better match all around

Megg

AWFUL waste of 1 hour that show of hers was. She got famous because she was one of the Spice Girls but that was about 8 years ago. Now she's famous because of who she's married to.... and because she looks like a freak of nature (plastic surgery). -but thinks she's HOT! Now THAT is what's FUNNY about her!!!

I think it's safe to say that the American Beckham/Posh media blitz didn't go over well. I would blame it on the PR firm who create this strange bit of theater. No one much cared who these two people were before they arrived, and no one much cared who they were when the smoke, mirrors and dust of their arrival settled down. They seemed like fourth rate publicity mongers who were permanently confused about who they were and what they were supposed to be doing with all those cameras and lights around them. Very odd, actually.

Gavin

Men don't like women with a sense of humour? What are you talking about? Plus who said Posh is pitching herself as the funniest comedian on the planet? She isn't. She has simply made a lighthearted documentary sending herself up. I thought the show worked really well. Nice, light touch, she seemed nice, gave me a feel for LA etc. Combine that with how well Becks came across in that documentary with Tim Lovejoy, I think they're great. Don't kick the Beckhams around for its own sake. Credit where due please.

Sharon

How sad that her best friends are her PAID staff. This woman has a vapid, shallow mind and is so self-promoting that the rest of us should just turn our heads and look away before she hurts herself pulling stunt after stunt to get our attention.

Maybe she could just go around town in a big ol' Bozo the Clown suit with a sign that says, "LOOK AT ME!" THe would be more subtle than her actions since she has come to the U.S.

She's as funny as gangrene.

se

Unfortunately people are laughing at Posh not with her. NBC admitted her first filming was boring hence the actors bought in and stunts and scripts. She was still toe-curlingly awful. She should go away, get over herself and allow others not to have her shoved in their face every day.
As for taking poor David to LA to join some ghastly, useless football club..words

I met Victoria Beckham a few years ago. I had a horrible job in a post-production studio and she was in for two days doing worldwide radio interviews. Of all the famous people who came through its doors, she was one of the very few people who treated me like a human being. She was nice, polite, kind, she asked me questions about myself and remembered by name. At the end she thanked me for all my work. I've been a 'fan' ever since. Go girl!

Andrea

Your moronic cracks about American standards of celebrity and class are hopelessly out of date. One of the few things currently uniting our great nation is our shared loathing of Paris Hilton.

And we don't think English people are posh 'cawse they tawk purty either. You need to get out of the house more, I think.

sue

Even if she was nice, which she could well be it does not mean she is good at anything. She was one fifth of one of the most manufactured and talentless girl bands on the planet. Why does she need a one hour programme on her spending her husbands money?

alvin

Posh should have been named demented spice she has actually lost the plot and the media are only grooming then to fall one day and i believe it will be horrible and unnecessary. Poor demented posh spice

Mitch

I am a british citizen living in the US.
Mrs. Beckham is a great ambassador for queen and country. She offers no baggage and is a constant lady. Who bloody well cares if she perfers stand-up. She is a positive role model, mother and wife.
You want to discuss a parallel to ridiculous, try wanna-be daughter to dame edna- eddie izzard. cheeky begger!
